Celebrate Valentine’s Day at The Birchmere with the return of After Dark featuring Burlesque Queen Angie Pontani alongside her trumpet-playing and smooth-crooning husband, Brian Newman! Brian is a Grammy-winning and current Grammy nominee for his musical direction and playing on Harlesquinn. Pontani and Newman have teamed up for over 10 years of After Dark performances, including lauded residencies at The Park MGM in Las Vegas and the notorious Box in NYC. A sonic and visual spectacular, After Dark delivers world-class live music that dives deep and challenges the scope of the American songbook. It’s a place where jazz classics butt up against Nirvana and Danzig covers in a seamless flow alongside performances not only from Angie, but from The After Dark Dancers, a trio of tightly choreographed and gorgeously costumed NYC terpsichoreans! Also joining the bill for this special Valentine’s Day show is Carly Harvey, the dynamic DC blues artist known for her unique fusion of blues, jazz, soul, and Indigenous American styles. Harvey was a recent contestant on S. 28 of The Voice, with coach Reba McEntire and Michael Bublé vying for her on their teams. Valentina the Ballerina also joins the cast. The Philadelphia-based prima ballerina combines her perfect pointe with classic burlesque, adding a fanciful flair to the engaging cast of After Dark.
This 90-minute stage show is curated together by Pontani and Newman. Their joint showbiz experiences working with greats like Lady Gaga, Tony Bennett, Snoop Dogg, Stevie Wonder, Bruno Mars, Jon Batiste, GYPSY on Broadway, and so many more have enabled them to bring this supper club experience to life. After Dark both harkens on the classic variety stage show format but is perfectly contemporary with a quick pace and excellent musical accompaniment.
After Dark has garnered a reputation for being a really good time amongst Newman and Pontani’s peers, with special guests randomly dropping in on any given performance and taking the stage.
